Conflict Mediation &

Transformative Justice

Conflict Mediation

Why we do this:

  • We think we absolutely need to respond to conflict better if we are going to become a force that is powerful enough to transform the systems that are devastating life on earth - to stop dividing, fragmenting, and burning out from conflicts.

  • We are also committed to a worldview of understanding human beings as always trying to meet needs. We have experienced the beauty and power of transformative and restorative approaches to conflict and want to end the suffering caused by punitive conflict systems everywhere.

What We Offer:

We facilitate people, organisations and movements through conflict, providing the support needed for everyone to be understood, to listen to what is important to others, and to discover what needs to evolve.

If we can bring sufficient support to a conflict, it can be a rich source of learning and transformation.

We really encourage you to get support with conflicts EARLY (when they first emerge). Without support conflict tends to get more and more tangled, with deeper divisions, and diminished trust and energy. Getting support early on can mean less time and effort is needed to actually respond to the conflict and integrate what it is offering.

Transformative
Justice Processes

Transformative Justice Processes are for situations where someone has been significantly impacted by the actions of someone else, and there is shared agreement by everyone involved about the location of agency (perpetrator of the harmful action) and impact (receiver of the harm).

Our approach to conflict mediation and transformative justice processes is grounded in the same principles, although there are differences regarding how we would facilitate each of them.

Check out the Fighting Together project for support with conflicts that are wider than individuals or groups and are dividing our movements. We have funding to support these conflicts to build stronger movements.

- If your conflict is about a decision where there is disagreement (without much interpersonal tension or strain), we may well use Convergent Facilitation, see our decision making page.

- See our approaches and influences page for more on what shapes how we work with conflict.
